Vox advocates for national priority in Spanish regional parliaments

The political party Vox has raised concerns regarding immigration in both the Basque Country and the Balearic Islands, advocating for ‘national priority’ in access to public services and housing.

In the Basque Parliament, representative Amaia Martínez Grisaleña linked irregular immigration to increased crime rates, housing shortages, and the saturation of Osakidetza, the regional public health service. She argued that the costs associated with treating undocumented individuals impact the quality of care available to citizens.

In the Balearic Islands, the Social Affairs Commission of the Parlament rejected a Vox initiative that sought to guarantee national priority for social housing, protected housing, and tax benefits. The proposal also called for the repatriation of all migrants in irregular situations. During the session, controversy arose when the commission's presidency removed comments made by Vox spokesperson Manuela Cañadas from the official record after a complaint from the PSIB, an action Cañadas described as ‘intolerable’ parliamentary censorship.
