Vox and far-right groups hold demonstration in Barcelona

During a demonstration in Barcelona on the Day of Hispanity, members of the far-right Vox and Partido Popular (PP) parties were joined by the neo-Nazi group Núcleo Nacional. Approximately 1,700 people participated in the event, which featured Nazi salutes, chants against immigrants and Muslims, and songs honoring the Francisco Franco dictatorship, such as ‘Cara al sol’. Protesters also displayed banners regarding the arrival of Christopher Columbus and called for ‘remigration’ and the defense of Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta.

In a separate political context, Vox leader Ignacio Garriga used the same day to launch a pre-campaign strategy for the upcoming November 29 elections. Vox is attempting to expand its influence in Catalonia by emphasizing ‘Catalan identity’ and anti-immigration stances. The party aims to capture voters from Aliança Catalana, a group that is not running in the general elections but has gained traction by capitalizing on local discontent regarding immigration.
