Vox blames local authorities over rising crime in Santander and Avilés

Vox representatives in two Spanish cities have denounced what they describe as a failure of public security. In Santander, party spokesperson Laura Velasco accused the municipal police of unpaid overtime and criticised the mayor and the socialist regional delegate, linking their inaction to recent violent incidents, including a stabbing in Plaza de Italia and the murder of a woman by a Moroccan suspect. In Avilés, Vox spokeswoman Arancha Martínez‑Riola warned of an “exponential” increase in violent robberies, saying residents now organise nightly patrols via WhatsApp groups. She blamed the socialist municipal government for policies that, in her view, protect criminals rather than victims. Both officials called for urgent measures to restore safety and protect residents, especially women, from further attacks.
