Vox confronts regional governments over bullfighting ban in Asturias and tax cut in Ceuta

In Asturias, Vox, together with the PP and Foro, compelled a marathon session of the regional Mobility Commission to discuss a draft law that would ban children under 16 from attending bullfighting events. The session saw 28 participants, including five of the ten regional ministers, summoned to debate the proposal, which was originally supported by the PSOE and IU and would impose heavy fines on violations. Vox framed the measure as an attempt by the left to “indoctrinate” families and undermine rural traditions.

In Ceuta, Vox’s attempt to expand the municipal property‑tax (IBI) discount to up to 95% for properties used in activities of “special interest” was rejected by the Assembly. Only the four Vox votes favored the change, while 17 votes opposed it. Treasury minister Kissy Chandiramani highlighted that Ceuta already enjoys an effective IBI rate of about 0.3% under its special fiscal regime and accused Vox of damaging investor confidence.

Both episodes illustrate Vox’s strategy of confronting regional authorities on cultural and fiscal issues across Spain.
