VOX demands restructuring of Spain's Permanent Deputation
The political party VOX has filed a formal request with the Board of the Permanent Deputation of the Spanish Congress, demanding a restructuring of the body to ensure constitutional proportionality. The party argues that the current distribution of members among parliamentary groups no longer reflects the actual seat counts following changes in the lower house.
VOX claims that the PSOE currently holds 25 of the 69 votes in the Permanent Deputation, representing 36.23% of the total, which exceeds its 34.57% share of seats in the Plenary. Additionally, the party contends that Sumar retains six representatives despite its seat count dropping from 31 to 26, resulting in a representation 17.09% higher than its actual parliamentary weight. VOX also noted that deputies who left Sumar to join the Mixed Group are creating a double representation issue.
To rectify these discrepancies, VOX is requesting a new distribution of members assigned to each parliamentary group and insists that the vote of the Chamber's president, Francina Armengol, be formally counted within the PSOE's quota to prevent her from acting as an extra vote.
