VOX deputy Ricardo Chamorro urges PSOE to stop politicising Festival de Almagro
VOX national deputy for Ciudad Real, Ricardo Chamorro, criticised the PSOE of Ciudad Real and socialist deputy Gonzalo Redondo for using the International Classical Theatre Festival of Almagro as a political weapon. He said, “Lo que tiene que hacer el PSOE es dejar de politizar el Festival de Almagro,” and argued that culture should remain free of ideology.
Chamorro noted that VOX opposed the validation of Royal Decree‑Law 12/2026 because he views the government’s use of decree‑laws as an abuse of power, not the festival itself. He recalled a 2025 incident when actor Juan Echanove used a festival‑related event to publicly support Pedro Sánchez, which Chamorro said also politicised the cultural programme.
He emphasized that the festival belongs to Almagro, Ciudad Real, Castilla‑La Mancha and Spain, and that VOX supports it through actions of the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real, which sits on the festival’s board. Chamorro called for the festival to be presented “with respect, fidelity to the texts and without present‑day ideological manipulation.”
