Vox party faces leadership departures in Alcalá de Henares and Toledo
The political party Vox is facing internal shifts and leadership changes in Spain. In Alcalá de Henares, Antonio Peñalver has resigned as a city councilor for personal reasons. Peñalver, who served as the Councilor for Economic Development and Employment and as CEO of the public entity Alcalá Desarrollo, will leave the PP-Vox coalition government. His departure reduces the number of Vox councilors in the municipality from three to two, with Alba Moreno Santa expected to fill the vacancy.
In Toledo, Inés Cañizares, the current deputy mayor and former national deputy, has announced she will not run for mayor in the May 2027 municipal elections. Cañizares has been a prominent internal critic of the party's leadership, previously signing a manifesto calling for an extraordinary congress and raising concerns regarding internal party financing and transparency.
