Vox proposes mixed pension model for Spain

Vox deputy José María Figaredo has proposed a structural reform of the Spanish pension system, advocating for a mixed model that combines the current public pay-as-you-go system with individual capitalization mechanisms. Figaredo characterized the existing system as "zombie" and claimed it has been "broken."

This proposal suggests that a portion of worker contributions would be directed toward personal savings accounts, while the remainder would support the traditional public system to ensure a minimum pension adjusted for the cost of living. This approach mirrors a policy previously included in the party's 2019 electoral program, which suggested a 50/50 split between public and individual contributions.

Figaredo cited rising pension expenditures, national debt, wage costs, and energy dependency as critical economic factors necessitating such a shift toward a model used by other European nations.
