Andalusia PP‑Vox coalition fuels controversy over governance and housing

The People's Party (PP) in Andalusia formed a governing pact with the far‑right Vox after the regional election, granting the party the vice‑presidency and control of tourism, deregulation, local administration and justice. President Juanma Moreno defended the agreement, saying the alternative would have been another election and that “the other option was to go to other elections.”

The coalition has triggered criticism from opposition parties and from within the PP itself. Vox representatives have accused the PP of delaying the affordable‑housing decree and of negotiating behind closed doors, while PP leaders warn that the partnership is necessary to avoid a ten‑month governmental paralysis. The housing decree, approved by the government and supported by Sumar, faces opposition from Junts and Vox, who claim it lacks fiscal measures and anti‑okupas provisions.

Vox lawmakers have also launched attacks on the PP over other issues, alleging that the PP votes alongside left‑wing parties on matters such as local police staffing and cultural proposals. The controversy extends to national debates on the “law of grandchildren” (ley de nietos), with Vox challenging the electoral‑census changes and planning a Supreme Court appeal. These disputes highlight the fragility of the Andalusian coalition and its impact on regional policy‑making.
