A study conducted at the University of Vigo (UVigo) indicates that the Spanish political party Vox employs a sophisticated discursive strategy to reframe progressive terminology for conservative objectives. Researcher Noelia Amado Corbacho analyzed parliamentary interventions, party communications, and social media content produced between 2022 and 2025.
The research suggests that Vox redefines the semantic category of 'woman' by creating associations between specific keywords. For instance, the term 'liberty' is linked to 'choice,' while 'feminism' is associated with 'conflict,' 'imposition,' or 'threat.'
Rather than explicitly arguing for the inferiority of women, the study finds that Vox presents the sexual division of labor as a matter of free choice and a respect for 'natural' differences. This approach aims to naturalize traditional gender roles and displace emancipatory interpretations of gender equality.
