Oktoberfest celebrations and German cultural festivals sweep southern Brazil

Various Oktoberfest celebrations and cultural events are taking place across southern Brazil, particularly in the state of Santa Catarina.

In Blumenau, the Oktoberfest is running alongside the Festival of German Dances, a partnership with the Joinville Dance Festival that features 25 groups competing with 76 choreographies. The region is also seeing high tourism numbers, with Pomerode expecting over 150,000 visitors due to the combination of the International Marathon and the Oktoberfest in nearby Blumenau.

Santa Cruz do Sul is hosting its 41st Oktoberfest, featuring musical acts like Henrique e Juliano and cultural activities such as a Bolão tournament to highlight German traditions. Other regional festivities include the Oktoberfest in Igrejinha, which relies heavily on a large volunteer force, and a community celebration at Parque Harmonia in Porto Alegre featuring German gastronomy and traditional music.
