Vozinha expresses loss of privacy following World Cup fame

Cape Verdean goalkeeper Josimar Évora Dias, widely known as Vozinha, has expressed frustration over the loss of privacy following his breakout performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In an interview with The Observer, the 40-year-old athlete stated that he would choose his previous life over his current fame if given the chance.

Vozinha became a global sensation after helping Cape Verde secure a historic 0-0 draw against Spain and reaching the knockout stages. His Instagram following surged from approximately 56,000 to over 28 million. He noted that the sudden attention has made daily activities, such as dining at restaurants, difficult due to constant requests for autographs, photos, and unauthorized filming.

The impact of his fame has also extended to his family in Cape Verde, where fans have reportedly begun visiting his mother’s home. Currently playing for the Chilean club Colo-Colo and nominated for the Yashin Trophy, Vozinha has turned off social media notifications to manage the overwhelming digital presence.
