Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha joins Chile's Colo-Colo

Josimar José Évora Dias, 40, better known as Vozinha, the Cape Verde goalkeeper who attracted worldwide attention with his saves at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, signed a six‑month contract with Chilean giants Colo‑Colo, with an option to extend for another year. He was presented at Santiago’s Estadio Monumental on 4 August, where between 25 000 and 42 000 fans greeted him with chants, a parachute‑delivered jersey and a “cápsula del cielo” ceremony. The club secured a special waiver from the ANFP to allow him to wear his nickname on the back of the shirt, overturning a rule that normally requires a surname. Vozinha said, “Siempre creí que era jugador de equipo grande,” and expressed gratitude to club president Aníbal Mosa. He is expected to debut in August and will also address the Rio Innovation Week conference virtually after his club commitments prevented a physical appearance in Brazil. The signing has generated a surge in his social‑media following, now exceeding 29 million followers.
