VR Group secures exclusive trademark for signature green color

VR Group has been granted exclusive rights to its signature green color, Pantone 7481, as a color trademark for passenger rail services in Finland. This registration prevents other operators in the same sector from using the same or a mixable shade of green as a central brand identifier.

The company stated that the color has been a core part of its brand identity since 2009, appearing on train fleets, uniforms, digital services, and marketing materials. According to a brand awareness study conducted in November 2025, 82 percent of respondents associated the color green with VR in the context of passenger and freight transport.

Minna Lampinen, VR’s Brand and Marketing Director, noted that the trademark is a recognition of long-term brand work and is essential for protecting the company’s intangible assets. VR anticipates increased competition in the Finnish rail transport market during the 2030s.
