Vrana Park faces crisis due to municipal inaction
The Tsar Boris and Tsarina Ioanna Foundation has issued an urgent warning regarding the deteriorating condition of Vrana Park, which is currently managed by the Sofia Municipality. The Foundation reports that the park-museum is facing a serious crisis due to a lack of adequate maintenance and institutional oversight.
Key issues identified include a series of recent fires, non-functional fire hydrants, and insufficient security coverage that is limited only to park entrances. Additionally, the botanical garden has remained closed to visitors for over a year. The Foundation expressed concern that the lack of timely response threatens the area's valuable vegetation, biodiversity, and museum character.
Despite meetings held in early August with Mayor Vasil Terziev, where specific proposals for preservation and management were presented, the Foundation claims that no municipal employees have visited the site or initiated work processes in the two weeks following those discussions. The Foundation is calling for immediate mowing, pruning, the removal of dangerous branches, and the restoration of fire safety infrastructure.
