Vrancea, Romania hit by magnitude‑3.4 earthquake

On the night of 8‑9 July 2026 a shallow earthquake of magnitude 3.4 struck the Vrancea seismic zone in Romania at 01:30 local time, at a depth of about 124.5 km. The tremor’s epicentre was located roughly 37 km south of Focșani, 57 km south of Buzău, 85 km east of Brașov and 95 km northeast of Ploiești. The National Institute for Research‑Development in Earth Physics classified the event as weak and it was not felt by the population.

Earlier, on 8 July 2026 at 18:00, the same zone recorded a smaller magnitude 2.8 quake at a depth of 93.8 km, with a similar location pattern. Both seismic movements were catalogued as low‑intensity and caused no reported damage or injuries.
