Vratsa and Botevgrad municipalities initiate infrastructure projects
The Vratsa Municipality has launched a €2.15 million environmental project aimed at preventing floods along the Skat River. Co-financed by the European Union under the ‘Environment’ Program 2021–2027, the 16-month initiative focuses on the upper reaches of the river near the villages of Gorno Peshtene, Golyamo Peshtene, and Ohoden. The project combines green infrastructure, involving the restoration of 6.92 hectares of natural areas, with 2.62 kilometers of grey infrastructure to mitigate erosion and protect local residents, property, and agricultural land.
In the Botevgrad Municipality, officials are awaiting funds to complete a water pipeline replacement project in the village of Vrachesh. Mayor Ivan Gavalyug stated that the project is currently frozen due to a lack of financing. The municipality expects to receive a second interim payment by late October or November, which should bring total funding to 90% of the project value. Once funds are secured, construction will resume to replace the remaining 5–6 kilometers of the network and restore road surfaces damaged during previous works.
