Vratsa Mayor accused of misappropriating municipal vehicles

Police in Vratsa, Bulgaria, have concluded an investigation into the misappropriation of three municipal vehicles intended for social services. The investigation revealed that a Volkswagen Touareg and two Ford Kuga models, purchased through two separate public procurement processes, were used by Mayor Kalin Kamenov and two deputy mayors for personal use rather than for the Community Support Center or assistant support services.

Authorities found that the technical specifications in the tender documents were artificially restricted to match the personal preferences of the actual drivers. Furthermore, the vehicles were never used by social service staff, never parked at the intended facilities, and lacked proper documentation regarding their operation. The estimated damages from this misuse exceed 170,000 euros. The case files have been forwarded to the prosecutor's office for the initiation of pre-trial proceedings.
