Vrinda Karat criticizes government over tribal rights

CPI(M) leader Vrinda Karat has criticized the central government during a national tribal conference, accusing it of conducting an ‘undeclared war’ against indigenous communities. Karat stated that the government is using a ‘bulldozer’ against the constitutional rights and legal frameworks designed to protect tribal populations.

Karat highlighted concerns regarding the preservation of tribal identity, noting that current educational policies and Eklavya Model Schools are failing to meet ground realities. She argued that the curriculum lacks connection to tribal culture, language, and history, which she described as an attempt to erase their identity.

The conference serves as a platform for representatives from various regions to discuss struggles over water, forest, and land rights, and to formulate future strategies for policy change and rights protection.
