Vrisak book festival opens in Rijeka

The 19th edition of Vrisak, a book fair and authors' festival, has officially opened in Rijeka, Croatia. Held at Flacius Square and other city locations, the event features over 60 programs running until September 19.

Key highlights include a discussion with prominent Ukrainian writer and intellectual Oksana Zabuzko. The festival aims to showcase significant books from the past six months that have sparked debate or received critical acclaim. Program director Drago Glamuzina noted that the festival seeks to address both literary and pressing global social issues.

During the opening ceremony, Rijeka Mayor Iva Rincic emphasized the importance of literature in fostering an open and creative society. The event also included a tribute to notable authors who passed away this year, specifically mentioning the late Rijeka writer Vedrana Rudan.
