Vrsac Hosts Ashkali Cultural Summer Festival

The "Cultural Summer in Vršac – Ashkali: culture, tradition and identity" festival opened on Tuesday in Vršac, Serbia. It was launched by the Center for Education and Assertion of Ashkali together with the Cultural Center Vršac, with backing from Serbia’s Ministry for Human and Minority Rights.

Provincial Government Vice‑President Tomislav Žigmanov addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of preserving cultural heritage, transmitting traditions to younger generations, and supporting multicultural policies in Vojvodina. He highlighted that such efforts strengthen the Ashkali community’s identity and promote intercultural dialogue.

The program featured an exhibition of traditional Ashkali clothing, a presentation of digital illustrations of Ashkali culture, and a screening of the film “Flag of Ashkali and the First Congress 2003”.
