Várzea Grande schools suspend classes for election preparations

Municipal schools in Várzea Grande are undergoing preparations to serve as voting locations for upcoming elections. To facilitate the organization of polling stations and the arrival of electronic voting machines, the Municipal Secretariat of Education, Culture, Sport, and Leisure (SMECEL) has announced the suspension of classes at specific units.

Activities will be suspended during the afternoon period on Friday and the morning period on Monday for schools designated as polling sites. Education Secretary Maria Fernanda de Figueiredo stated that these units must organize makeup classes to ensure compliance with the required annual school hours and the national education guidelines.

In a separate educational initiative, some schools in the municipality have implemented simulated elections. These activities allow students to experience the democratic process through candidate presentations, voting, and real-time results tracking to promote citizenship and social participation.
