Várzea Grande evaluates coffee cultivation for family farmers
The municipality of Várzea Grande is evaluating the implementation of coffee cultivation to strengthen local family farming. The initiative aims to diversify productive activities among small-scale producers.
Through the cooperative COOPLÍDER, the project seeks to access up to R$ 3.6 million from the Mato Grosso state government's MT Produtivo program. This funding includes R$ 3 million in non-reimbursable resources and a R$ 600,000 counterpart from the cooperative. The funds are intended for the purchase of seedlings, fertilizers, and irrigation equipment.
The project is currently in a construction phase, pending technical and economic feasibility studies. These studies will analyze soil characteristics, annual rainfall, water availability, and irrigation needs. Technical support will be provided by the municipal Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Rural Development in coordination with Empaer.
