Mato Grosso Expands Surgery Access, Opens Central Hospital

The state government of Mato Grosso has accelerated elective surgery access through the Fila Zero program, cutting average waiting time from 77 to 45 days – a 41% reduction – and completing 718,025 procedures by mid‑2025. The program, backed by a R$400 million investment, aims to deliver 588,000 procedures by 2026 and has already attracted 88 municipalities and more than R$343 million in partner funding.

Parallel to the surgical push, the Secretaria de Estado de Saúde (SES‑MT) has delivered 15 training sessions for the Regula MT statewide regulation platform, reaching over 1,100 health professionals and expanding remote and on‑site workshops across 30 municipalities.

In January the new Hospital Central de Alta Complexidade began operating, offering robotic surgeries and other high‑precision procedures. Managed by the Einstein Hospital Israelita, it has performed 23 robotic surgeries, served more than 17,000 patients from 104 municipalities (over 73% of the state), and aims to run 240 specialty procedures per month by July.

Additional initiatives include group pre‑operative bariatric consultations at Hospital Metropolitano in Várzea Grande and a technical visit by the Tribunal de Contas to the João Ribeiro Filho inclusion centre, reflecting broader efforts to improve specialized and inclusive health services in the state.
