Várzea Grande expands health services with large medical mutirão and blood donation drive

In July, the municipality of Várzea Grande, Brazil, will carry out its largest health mutirão, offering more than 9,300 procedures. The initiative, backed by the state’s Fila Zero program and the Intermunicipal Health Consortium of the Rio Cuiabá Valley (CISVARC), will provide complex imaging exams such as CT scans, MRIs and ultrasounds, and perform gynecological and general surgeries. Specific targets include 1,550 tomographies, 930 MRIs and 405 surgeries at designated providers, aiming to drastically cut waiting times for SUS patients.

At the same time, the municipal emergency hospital will hold a blood‑donation campaign on July 3‑4 to boost its blood‑product stocks. Organized by hospital nursing staff, the drive invites community members and health workers to donate at the hospital’s blood bank, supporting the unit that serves the Baixada Cuiabana region and neighboring areas. The campaign is part of the newly opened blood‑collection facility inaugurated last year under Mayor Flávia Moretti’s administration.
