Várzea Grande expands oversight of early‑childhood schools

The Municipal Secretariat of Education, Culture, Sports and Leisure (SMECEL) in Várzea Grande is intensifying the accreditation, authorization and renewal process for early‑childhood education institutions. Operating under Resolution No. 006/2023/CME/VG, the programme covers both public and private schools. Currently, 26 units have pending procedures.

Coordinator Eva de Paula Vieira explains that schools initiate the process by applying to SMECEL, after which technicians conduct document reviews and on‑site visits evaluating institutional records, pedagogical practices and physical infrastructure. Non‑compliant schools receive formal notifications with deadlines to make required adjustments before advancing.

SMECEL also conducts inspections prompted by citizen complaints about unlicensed operations. The agency stresses that these actions protect children, guarantee proper documentation for families, and uphold legal and quality standards. Municipal Education Secretary Maria Fernanda highlighted the permanent monitoring as a commitment to educational quality and child rights.
