Várzea Grande health department conducts eye‑exam mutirão for 50 residents

The municipal health secretariat of Várzea Grande, Brazil, organized a one‑day ophthalmology mutirão at the Centro Mato‑grosense de Oftalmologia. Around 50 patients received specialized eye examinations, including ocular tomography, paquimetry, perimetry and retinography. Attendees included a 67‑year‑old who had cataract surgery, a 55‑year‑old construction worker and a 41‑year‑old teacher, all of whom had been waiting for months for these procedures. Officials said the event is part of the "Fila Zero" program aimed at accelerating specialist care and reducing long waiting lists, and that further mutirões are planned to expand access to eye care in the municipality.
