Várzea Grande health officials promote viral hepatitis awareness

Health surveillance teams from the Várzea Grande Municipal Health Secretariat conducted an educational lecture at the Casa de Acolhimento Rogina de Arruda to raise awareness about viral hepatitis. The initiative targeted vulnerable populations, including people experiencing homelessness and those traveling for medical treatment.

The presentation focused on hepatitis types B, C, and Delta, while also providing information on syphilis and HIV. Medical professionals emphasized that viral hepatitis can remain asymptomatic for years, causing liver damage without warning. Symptoms may include fatigue, fever, nausea, abdominal pain, dark urine, and jaundice, but the absence of these signs often delays diagnosis.

Health officials stressed the critical importance of prevention and regular testing to combat these silent infections.
