Várzea Grande health officials provide guidance on urgent dental care

The Municipal Health Secretariat of Várzea Grande is providing guidance to the population regarding when to seek urgent dental care at a 24-hour Emergency Care Unit (UPA) versus the Family Health Strategy (ESF).

Urgent dental situations include intense pain, infections, abscesses, swelling, bleeding, cuts, and dental trauma. The UPA IPASE, located in the Vila Ipase neighborhood, is the designated facility for these 24-hour emergency services. Health professionals emphasize that patients should not wait for symptoms to worsen, as emergency care addresses immediate issues, but follow-up treatment is necessary to address the underlying cause.

Patient priority at the UPA is determined by the Manchester Risk Classification protocol. This system uses a five-color scale to establish the order of care: Blue (non-urgent), Green (slightly urgent), Yellow (urgent), Orange (very urgent), and Red (emergency/immediate life risk).
