Várzea Grande health professionals trained to track serious fungal diseases

Health surveillance professionals from Várzea Grande participated in a two-day training program in Cuiabá to improve the identification and monitoring of serious fungal diseases in Mato Grosso. The initiative focuses on the implementation of the Surveillance of Endemic and Opportunistic Mycoses.

The training addressed the risks of severe fungal infections, such as sporotrichosis, which can be transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals, particularly cats. While often mistaken for superficial skin issues, these infections can affect internal organs if not properly diagnosed.

Participants engaged in theoretical sessions and simulations for notification forms, followed by practical training on the ‘Sistema Micosis’. This new digital tool will allow health officials to register patient information, track disease evolution, and organize treatment workflows.
