Várzea Grande Hosts First Family Agriculture Expo in Baixada Cuiabana

Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, will host the inaugural Family Agriculture Expo of the Baixada Cuiabana region on Friday, 3 May, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Praça Sarita Baracat. The event brings together family farmers from Várzea Grande, Cuiabá, Nossa Senhora do Livramento and other municipalities to promote direct marketing, solidarity‑based economics and the recognition of traditional rural knowledge.

The expo honors the late Terezinha Rios, former president of Unicafes MT and a prominent advocate for family farming and solidarity economy, who was murdered in 2017. Municipal Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Rural Development Ricardo Amorim said the fair “strengthens the rural economy, creates opportunities for producers to sell without intermediaries and showcases the strategic role of family agriculture in Várzea Grande.”

Organised by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture in partnership with Unicafes, Instituto Maria Terra, the city hall and several agricultural bodies, the expo offers free entry, product stalls, cultural performances and a focus on women farmers. The event aims to deepen integration among municipalities in the Baixada Cuiabana and to encourage cooperative development and sustainable rural growth.
