Várzea Grande hosts leprosy diagnosis and management training
Várzea Grande will host a theoretical and practical training course focused on the diagnosis and clinical management of leprosy from September 21 to 25. Organized by the Mato Grosso Public Health School (ESP-MT), the 40-hour program aims to strengthen the identification of symptoms, early diagnosis, and proper case management.
The training involves health professionals from the Baixada Cuiabana region, including participants from Cuiabá, Chapada dos Guimarães, Poconé, and several other municipalities. A total of 40 spots are available, with 20 allocated to Várzea Grande and two for each of the other participating cities.
The curriculum combines theoretical sessions at Unifacc with practical activities at the Parque do Lago and Maringá health units. According to Adriana Matos, coordinator of the Várzea Grande Leprosy Program, the initiative is designed to support frontline healthcare teams and aligns with a new co-financing model from the Ministry of Health.
