Várzea Grande health department holds first community health mutirão

On Saturday, June 20, the Secretaria Municipal de Saúde of Várzea Grande organized the first free community health mutirão in the Capela do Piçarrão neighbourhood, using the EMEB Professor Antônio Sebastião Salústio Areias school as a venue. Hundreds of residents received a range of services, including 47 vaccine doses, updates to Bolsa Família cards, medical consultations, dental advice, cardiology check‑ups, and rabies vaccinations for 20 dogs and six cats. Participants also received 129 oral‑hygiene kits and attended health‑education talks on oral care and nutrition.

Valéria Nogueira, the municipal health secretary, said, “Our commitment is to bring health closer to people,” while primary‑care superintendent Nathalia Rondon highlighted the teams’ effort to provide comprehensive care. Secondary‑care coordinator Sônia Nabarrete noted the importance of specialist consultations. Residents praised the event, with Neuza Pereira calling it “practical for the community” and Terezinha Campos thanking the service for enabling a needed cardiology appointment.
