Várzea Grande implements youth employment and social programs

The city of Várzea Grande has introduced new initiatives aimed at social development and professional training for youth. Mayor Flávia Moretti sanctioned Municipal Law No. 5.600/2026, establishing the Municipal Program for Apprenticeship, Professional Qualification, and Preparation for First Employment. The program targets adolescents and young people in vulnerable social situations, specifically prioritizing those facing economic hardship or domestic violence.

The legislation encourages professional apprenticeship for those aged 14 and above, adhering to federal requirements regarding school attendance and labor rights. It includes services such as career guidance, resume building, interview preparation, and financial education. The executive branch is authorized to form partnerships with private companies, industries, and educational institutions to expand these opportunities.

In a separate social initiative, the municipal government, through the Secretariat of Education, Culture, Sport, and Leisure, concluded a nine-month pilot of the ‘Raízes da Paz’ (Roots of Peace) project at the Joaquim da Cruz Coelho Municipal School. Developed in partnership with the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso (TJMT), the project utilized peace-building circles, workshops, and lectures to promote conflict prevention and emotional support for students and their families.
