Várzea Grande launches menstrual dignity initiative in schools

The EMEB Professora Lúcia Leite Rodrigues school hosted the official launch of the Menstrual Dignity Guideline, an initiative designed to combat social vulnerability and menstrual poverty within the school environment.

Based on Law No. 4.761/2012, authored by Councilwoman Rosy Prado, the program is a collaborative effort between the municipal secretariats of Education, Social Promotion, and Health. The initiative aims to demystify menstrual taboos and provide practical support to students.

In its initial phase, the program targets 5th-grade students, aged approximately 10 to 12. The guidelines provide instructions for students and guardians on how to access free sanitary pads through accredited pharmacies. Educators noted that the program also includes pedagogical support to promote self-care and prevent school absenteeism caused by menstrual issues.
