Várzea Grande library inaugurates Afroteca collection

The Professora Laurinda Municipal Public Library in Várzea Grande has inaugurated the Afroteca, a specialized collection dedicated to the preservation and valorization of Black history, culture, and intellectual production. The initiative aims to democratize access to information and strengthen racial equality policies within the municipality.

The collection is organized into three distinct areas. The first focuses on Afro-Brazilian and African production, covering topics such as the history of Africa, the African diaspora, post-abolition periods, and African-matrix religions. The second area gathers Black intellectual production, including works by Black authors, theses, dissertations, and peripheral literature. The third area is dedicated to memory and rarities, featuring historical documents, photographs, old newspapers from the Black press, and vinyl records.
