Várzea Grande mayor launches Open Talk on equal pay and gender equality
The municipality of Várzea Grande, in partnership with Business Professional Women (BPW) Várzea Grande, held an "Open Talk – Trabalho Igual, Salário Igual" event on June 8. The gathering presented proposals for municipal action, including educational initiatives on gender equity, programs to encourage hiring women for first jobs, leadership development for women, and school programs teaching respect and equal valuation of women.
Mayor Flávia Moretti emphasized the goal of expanding dialogue on salary equity, bringing together female leaders, public officials, professionals, and civil society to discuss challenges and opportunities. Municipal secretaries Fabyane Nagazawa and Ina de Maria highlighted the importance of sharing experiences and addressing cultural barriers. BPW founder Sônia Mazetto called for joint public‑private effort to create a fairer society and increase women's presence in decision‑making roles.
The event featured a range of participants from local government, business, and NGOs, and was documented with a photo gallery released by the city administration.
