Várzea Grande Municipal Guard detains arson suspect near hospital ICU
The Municipal Guard of Várzea Grande detained a 37-year-old man on Wednesday morning suspected of setting fire to an area adjacent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the maternity ward of the Várzea Grande Municipal Emergency Room.
Investigators found cardboard remnants at the scene that were allegedly used to ignite the fire against the external structure of the building. Smoke from the blaze entered the ICU, where six children were undergoing medical treatment.
The suspect, who had a minor facial abrasion, was initially provided medical care before being transported to the Central de Flagrantes for legal proceedings. The incident was reported following a request from the health unit's coordination to the Municipal Security Intelligence Center.
