Várzea Grande implements social, health, and infrastructure initiatives
The City of Várzea Grande is executing several municipal programs focused on education, public health, and urban mobility.
In education, the ‘Raízes da Paz’ (Roots of Peace) project, a partnership between the Municipal Secretariat of Education, Culture, Sport and Leisure (SMECEL) and the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso (TJMT), has completed a nine-month pilot cycle at the Joaquim da Cruz Coelho Municipal School. The initiative utilized peace-building circles, workshops, and lectures to promote conflict prevention and emotional development among students and families.
In public health, the Municipal Health Secretariat organized a task force at FEB Saúde to provide 560 imaging exams for women, including mammographies and ultrasounds, as part of the ‘Outubro Rosa’ (Pink October) campaign. The action aims to reduce waiting lists and facilitate early diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer.
Regarding urban infrastructure, the Municipal Secretariat of Public Services and Urban Mobility is revitalizing road signaling. The works include repainting horizontal markings, curbs, and installing new signs in regions such as Guarita, Primavera, and near Colégio Irineu Gomes to improve pedestrian and driver safety.
