Brazil mobilizes mental health awareness for Setembro Amarelo

Brazil is observing Setembro Amarelo (Yellow September), a national campaign dedicated to suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Various municipal health departments and organizations are mobilizing to provide support and education.

In Várzea Grande, the Municipal Health Secretariat is highlighting the availability of the Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS), which offer specialized services for mental disorders, alcohol, and drugs, as well as child and adolescent care. Similarly, in Eunápolis and Corumbá, local authorities are conducting educational activities in schools and public spaces to promote a culture of peace and mental well-being.

Health experts emphasize that while emotions like sadness and anxiety are natural, they require professional attention when they become persistent or interfere with daily life. Recommended preventive habits include regular physical activity, healthy eating, and adequate sleep. Digital tools and services like the Centro de Valorização da Vida (CVV), accessible via phone at 188, are also being promoted as vital resources for emotional support and crisis intervention.
