Várzea Grande reports 67.85% IPTU delinquency rate
Várzea Grande has reported a 67.85% delinquency rate for the 2026 Property and Territorial Urban Tax (IPTU). Out of 162,872 registered properties, 110,501 have not yet made payments, while 52,371 are settled. Total revenue collected stands at R$ 60,267,376.59, leaving R$ 141,173,422.14 in outstanding debt. High delinquency rates were noted in the Centro district, which reached 90%.
To address these figures, the municipal government has regulated new procedures for using economic-fiscal information provided by the Mato Grosso State Finance Secretariat (Sefaz-MT). This includes data from credit/debit card transactions and Pix payments to assist in auditing and tax collection for ISS, IPTU, and ITBI. The decree establishes that individualized financial data can only be accessed during an active administrative or fiscal process to ensure oversight.
The city offers several methods for taxpayers to regularize their status, including in-person service at the Paço Municipal and the Taxpayer Service Center (CAC), as well as virtual assistance via WhatsApp and an AI-powered chatbot on the official municipal website.
