Várzea Grande training identifies 42 new leprosy cases
A medical training program conducted by the municipal health network in Várzea Grande, Brazil, has led to the identification of 42 new cases of leprosy. The training, held at Family Health Units in the Parque do Lago and Maringá neighborhoods, involved 108 medical assessments.
Of the new cases identified, 36 were adults and six were children under the age of 15. The initiative also identified 11 instances of leprosy relapse or re-entry. Clinical evaluations during the program categorized patients by physical disability grades, noting 15 patients with grade 0, 23 with grade 1, and 15 with grade 2.
The program focused on deepening technical knowledge regarding neurological alterations, leprosy reactions, and the importance of dermatoneurological evaluation within primary care. Health workers from neighboring municipalities, including Chapada dos Guimarães, also participated in the training.
