Várzea Grande Wins 60 Medals, Cementing Its Role as Paralympic Powerhouse in Mato Grosso

Athletes from the Centro de Referência Paralímpico in Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, dominated the state Paralympic Meeting held on Saturday (23). They collected a total of 60 medals in athletics and swimming, including 48 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze. In athletics the team earned 33 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze, while swimmers secured 15 gold and one silver, and several state records were broken.

Municipal officials, including supervisor Rodrigo Rafael Pires da Silva and Secretary of Education, Culture, Sport and Leisure Maria Fernanda Figueiredo, described the results as historic, highlighting the centre’s integration with the Brazilian Paralympic Committee and partnerships with the Federal University of Mato Grosso. The performance positions Várzea Grande as a leading Paralympic hub in the state and draws national attention to its inclusive sport programs.
