Vsetín opens energy community for residents and local businesses
The city of Vsetín has opened its energy community to residents and small to medium-sized enterprises following a successful multi-month trial period. The community allows members to act as producers, consumers, or both, enabling those with solar photovoltaic systems to share surplus electricity directly with other members within the group rather than feeding it into the public grid.
Jiří Růžička, the deputy mayor of Vsetín and chairman of the community, stated that the initiative is a step toward more efficient use of renewable energy and an opportunity to save costs. The community currently includes municipal organizations and two private solar owners.
The city is also actively expanding its own solar capacity. Current municipal installations, including those at schools and local facilities, have a capacity of approximately 120 kWp. Vsetín aims to increase this total capacity to over 2 MWp through upcoming projects at various educational and cultural sites, as well as a large-scale plant planned for municipal land in Bobrky.
