Västra Götalandsregionen announces cancer testing and vaccination updates

The Västra Götalandsregion (VGR) has announced several public health initiatives for the upcoming period. Middle-aged men in the region will continue to be offered prostate cancer testing through 2027, including those turning 50. Since the project began in 2020, over 140,000 letters have been sent, resulting in 318 prostate cancer diagnoses. Medical officials note that while early detection can lead to successful treatment, some detected tumors grow slowly and may only require monitoring.

Separately, VGR is launching a digital vaccination campaign targeting approximately 400,000 residents aged 65 and older. Between October 12 and October 21, residents will receive notifications via the 1177 platform regarding recommended vaccinations for influenza, COVID-19, and pneumococcus. Vaccination appointments can be booked starting October 12, with the vaccination rollout scheduled to begin on November 3.
