Vít Rakušan addresses parliamentary scandal and STAN election strategy
STAN movement leader Vít Rakušan has criticized the coarseness of Czech politics following controversial remarks made by SPD MP Miroslav Ševčík regarding party colleague Michaela Šebelová. Rakušan characterized the comments about menopause as a lack of basic human decency rather than a mere difference of political opinion, stating that such behavior should not be tolerated in or out of the Chamber of Deputies.
While Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) sought an apology, Taťána Malá, the ANO parliamentary group leader and human rights commissioner, blocked the apology from being placed on the session's agenda. Ševčík has since released a video response that continues to use insults rather than offering an apology. In response, Šebelová has filed a complaint with the mandate and immunity committee.
Regarding future political goals, Rakušan stated that following recent municipal and Senate election successes, STAN aims to change the government. The party plans to conduct a regional campaign to engage voters, specifically targeting one-fifth of ANO supporters, with the long-term objective of ensuring the current coalition loses its majority in the next Chamber of Deputies elections.
