VTV Cup 2026: Ethnic minority women's football championship concludes in Lao Cai
The inaugural Vietnam Ethnic Minority Women's Football Championship, known as the VTV Cup 2026, recently concluded at Nghia Lo Stadium in Lao Cai province. The tournament brought together 12 teams representing nine different provinces across the country.
In the final match, the host team from Luc Yen, Lao Cai, secured a 2-1 victory against Dak Doa from Gia Lai. The event highlighted the growing potential of female athletes within ethnic minority communities, many of whom balance football with traditional agricultural or domestic responsibilities.
The organizing committee, led by the Center for Ethnic and Rural Communications under Vietnam Television (VTV), faced significant logistical challenges. Organizers reported having less than two months to prepare the national-scale event, managing issues ranging from team withdrawals to complex travel arrangements for participating players.
