VUB and UGent host international photonics symposium

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Ghent University (UGent) are hosting the symposium ‘Advancing Excellence in Photonics for Flanders and the World’ on October 19 and 20. The event brings together international experts from academia and industry to discuss recent developments and future challenges in photonics, including photonic chips, quantum technology, and advanced optical systems.

The symposium also commemorates the 20th anniversary of the joint Photonics Engineering master's program, which has trained over 500 specialists since 2006. The program highlights photonics as a key technology for applications in optical communication, imaging, laser technology, artificial intelligence, and medical sensors.

Scheduled to take place at the Royal Library of Belgium in Brussels, the event features prominent speakers such as photonics expert Michael Lebby and Françoise Chombar, the former CEO and current board chair of Melexis.
