Tadej Pogačar wins solo in Andorra after Vuelta stage cancellation
The 2026 Vuelta a España has seen significant drama due to extreme weather and dominant performances. Severe hailstorms and heavy rain in the Pyrenees forced organizers to cancel the third stage, which was set to run from Gruissan to Font-Romeu. During the storm, riders including leader Tadej Pogačar were forced to seek shelter in local hotels.
Following the weather disruption, Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG asserted his dominance in the fourth stage. In a demanding 104.8-kilometer mountain stage starting and ending in Andorra la Vella, Pogačar launched a solo attack with approximately 50 kilometers remaining. He secured a decisive victory, finishing 2 minutes and 39 seconds ahead of second-place Jarno Widar.
Pogačar has significantly strengthened his position in the general classification, holding a comfortable lead over rivals such as Primož Roglič and Enric Mas. The race continues to navigate high-altitude terrain, with upcoming stages expected to feature intense climbing in regions like the Serra d’Aitana.
