Vuelta a Colombia cancelled following major earthquake

The Colombian Cycling Federation has officially cancelled the 2026 Vuelta a Colombia following a devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on August 10. The decision was made to prioritize emergency relief efforts and ensure that roads remain clear for rescue teams and humanitarian aid, particularly in heavily affected areas like Caldas.

The race was halted after the fifth stage, as the planned sixth stage was set to pass through Manizales, one of the hardest-hit regions. Federation President Rubén Galeano stated that the organization did not want to obstruct the movement of aid.

Due to the sudden termination of the competition, Diego Camargo of Team Medellín-EPM has been declared the overall winner based on the standings after the fifth stage. He is followed on the podium by Javier Ernesto Jamaica in second place and Edgar Andrés Pinzón in third. The earthquake has resulted in at least 273 deaths and caused widespread destruction to homes and infrastructure across the region.
